IC Date: Month 11 2267 to Month 6 2268
(Turns 7-8 of the 10th Pass)
Please do not go beyond these dates; going back and doing threads in the past is fine, going into the future is not.
Threadfall: Ongoing; intermittent and unlikely to freeze as the weather warms
Following a spectacular flight, Queen Minervath was caught by King Sulith and is now heavy with eggs. A new clutch is on the way, but will it be anything like her last or will this time bring joy and not sorrow?

Meanwhile, the Weyr continues to recover from the disastrous fallout of the first Threadfall of the Turn. Thread was successfully fought, but there were many injuries that brought the fighting strength of the Weyr down. A meeting has been called amongst the Weyr's leadership, Weyrlingmasters and Wingleaders to determine where the weaknesses lie.

In happier news, Senior Queen Kansk and Soldier-King Candesk have laid clutches, and as the eggs have hardened it has become clear that a joint hatching is to be expected.

No New Posts The Weyrbowl
Since, unlike most Weyrs, Plateau does not inhabit an extinct volcanic cone, the "bowl" is actually the flat top of the huge, cavern-riddled limestone mesa in which the Weyr abides. There is a clear, cold lake in the center, both hollowed out and kept full by countless Turns of rainfall. Fish have been introduced to it by humans, and now it is a good place for fishing as well as dragon bathing. The rest of the "bowl" is very open and flat, covered in a thin coating of dirt in which patches of small, wind-distorted trees and brush grow here and there. The wind has swept the surface to bare stone in many places. The Star Stones are at the far eastern edge of the "bowl," and there are toothy outcroppings at the edges on which watchriders perch, keeping an eye on the rolling hilly lands below and the lesser mesas nearby.

A hallway with several messageboards, for all those rumors, bits of gossip, or even pieces of art you want to share anonymously on the Weyr's figurative fridge door. No New Posts Hatching Grounds
This cavern is deep below the surface of the earth, technically beneath rather than within the great mesa housing Plateau Weyr, its sands heated by geothermal emanations from even further down. This place is accessible to humans only by a series of winding tunnels; it's rather a long walk, so the Candidate Barracks are in a smaller cavern off the main Hatching Grounds so they don't have to travel far when a Hatching begins. There is a gaping hole in the roof of the cavern large enough for many dragons to fly through at once; this is actually the mouth of a huge limestone cave system which, though somewhat dangerous to fly through, is quite navigable by air. Sometime before recorded history, someone discovered that part of this network came very close to the outer rock 'skin' of the gigantic plateau in which it is contained and broke through it, thus creating an entrance from the outside for dragons. Many younger, smaller dragons in particular enjoy the acrobatic flight through this tunnel to reach the Hatching Grounds and its draconic spectator perches, but tragedies happen occasionally when foolish riders attempt to accompany their beasts instead of walking like everyone else and end up being bashed against a stalactite or falling off in the unpredictable environment; it's nothing at all like flying Thread and obstacles are everywhere. Once you are actually in the great cavern which houses the Hatching Sands, however, there is plenty of room. There are two small caverns situated off the Hatching Grounds. One is the Candidate Barracks and the other is a Queen's Weyr designed to be occupied temporarily by whichever female and her rider are currently guarding a clutch.

No New Posts Lower Caverns
On one side of the flat top of the plateau which passes for the Weyr's "bowl," there is a ledge which juts out, starting level with the top of the mesa but gradually moving down along its side, wide enough for a small dragon to walk on for most of its length, until it reaches a cave opening large enough to admit a Scout. This is the entrance to the Lower Caverns of Plateau Weyr, though due to the topography of the Weyr, it might be more accurate to call them the outermost of the Inner Caverns. The immense mesa holding the Weyr is honeycombed by limestone caverns and tunnels; within those too small for almost all dragons to pass through are the working, eating, and living spaces of the Weyrfolk. Included herein are the Dining Cavern, the Kitchens, the various Craft Caverns, including the Weyr's two actual secondary Crafthalls (Soldier and Harper), the underground lakes and rivers which are collectively known as the Water Caverns, plus countless miles of unused, uncharted caves and tunnels, the vast majority of which are natural.

No New Posts Courtyard
Hilltop Hold is situated, as its name implies, atop one of the largest foothills of the Telgar Mountains, in which Plateau Weyr's mesa is located. Its courtyard is the only place from which its Great Hall and the rest of the interior can be accessed, as the Hold is carved out of the very rock of the hillside itself, burrowing deep into the earth.

No New Posts Great Hall
The well-appointed Great Hall of Hilltop Hold is spacious and well-maintained, though it is sunk into the ground and resembles a subterranean complex more than it does a dwelling in some ways. The somewhat Spartan local culture contributes to this; the decorations are mostly tapestries with military themes.

No New Posts Great Hall
Smaller and less grand than the Hall at Hilltop Hold, it is nevertheless more charmingly appointed, filled with glowbaskets, tapestries depicting all kinds of technological wonders (many now forgotten and considered scenes of lost magic by modern Pernese) and ancient Pernese historical scenes. Whers are often brought through here and the mark of their claws is visible on the well-swept stone floor.

No New Posts Courtyard
The courtyard of Skullstone Hold is inaccessible by foot. Only dragons and whers can get their riders here... or beings able to fly by other means. This community as a result is where most of Pern's dragonkin-Ferali live, as well as a large population of Therioi capable of shifting into flying species. There are plenty of other Ferali and humans here too, of course. Skullstone Hold is a mining and smithing Hold, established within natural caves high in the mountains. It is simply too treacherous to walk or ride a runnerbeast to, though mountain-bred whers are capable of navigating the harsh, nearly vertical landscape.

No New Posts Frog River Hold
Technically beholden to Hilltop Hold, this minor Hold is located southeast of Hilltop, near the coast though not quite on it. It is notable for two things: the screaming of the wildlife the hold is named for, and being a local base of operations run by the Hale Trade Family that uses the pretense of being a normal hold as a smokescreen.

No New Posts Art
Any Storm Nexus-related art can be posted here. As with RPing on the forums, art is considered activity and is worth marks. Each art post will be 'graded' by an admin and assigned a mark value. Art will not be graded on your skill as an artist but rather its topicality and level of completion.

Use the rubric to decide the ultimate value of a piece, pixels can be graded as well.

Please post each new piece of art in a separate thread, and include the following information. Pixels may be posted in batches due to their smallness.

No New Posts Chat Logs
Storm Nexus activity generally consists of forum RP, art, and writings, but live SN RP has happened before, and it deserves to be considered as activity and for marks. Post any live RP logs that you wish to be considered as official scenes here in this forum. They will be 'graded' for marks by an admin on a similar basis as an RP thread would - number of participants, length of the log, whether the scene involves a plot event, and so forth.

Please post each log in a separate thread, and include the following information. Only complete logs will be graded for marks. We will be using a grading system, those rubrics can be found in their specific sections.
