IC Date: Month 11 2267 to Month 6 2268
(Turns 7-8 of the 10th Pass)
Please do not go beyond these dates; going back and doing threads in the past is fine, going into the future is not.
Threadfall: Ongoing; intermittent and unlikely to freeze as the weather warms
Following a spectacular flight, Queen Minervath was caught by King Sulith and is now heavy with eggs. A new clutch is on the way, but will it be anything like her last or will this time bring joy and not sorrow?

Meanwhile, the Weyr continues to recover from the disastrous fallout of the first Threadfall of the Turn. Thread was successfully fought, but there were many injuries that brought the fighting strength of the Weyr down. A meeting has been called amongst the Weyr's leadership, Weyrlingmasters and Wingleaders to determine where the weaknesses lie.

In happier news, Senior Queen Kansk and Soldier-King Candesk have laid clutches, and as the eggs have hardened it has become clear that a joint hatching is to be expected.

((only managed a few IC responses but I figured that's better than nothing, sorry for keeping people waiting~))

Ty'dan and Officer Giyith - no injury | injured 12 left rear leg

After that one disastrous Fall, Ty'dan had devoted himself to pouring over records for any clue that he might have missed--true, he could not hold himself responsible for the entire thing, but he could most definitely hold himself responsible for at least fifty percent. That neither he nor Giyith had any power over either Threadfall or even most of the Wings was beside the point. They were Wingseconds now, and Weyrlingmaster to the Deities clutch. It was their job to do everything they could to keep their charges safe and in order to do that, Ty’dan had to be prepared.

However, it did not take long after their Wing sprang skyborn for all the notes and calculations to go flying out of his head. Although it could contribute to their drills with the Wingleader’s approval, the memory of a long dead Wingleader’s notes could only do so much in the face of flying through the air at high speeds, trying to track not only clumps of Thread but their fellow Wingmembers and every other dragon in sky. Ty’dan hunched low over Giyith’s neck and leaned into a turn. It is our duty, Giyith informed him, cheerfully searing a strand of Thread into ash. It does not matter how we do it, so long as we do it. Sometimes that comes with a cost.

It is not a cost we have to accept--what if we can do better? It was a conversation they had had before--Giyith found the idea of research interesting in more of an abstract way than his rider. He snorted and swept around for another pass. Then we shall do our best to do better, but we cannot let it distract us. He pulled up sharply enough to make Ty’dan’s breath hitch, but Giyith had little interest in being cautious where Thread was concerned.

Somewhere a dragon shrieked and Ty’dan grimaced, glancing over his shoulder. Not one of theirs, not this time. We can still be careful. Where is the honour in that? Giyith lunged after a tumbling clump of Thread ahead, surging forwards so quickly that Ty’dan had to snatch at his straps to steady himself. Careful-- And then Giyith was roaring in pain and instead of the bright air above Lake Hold was nothing but the icy nothing of Between. Ty’dan clutched at the dragon’s hide he knew at to be beneath his hands, patting at him urgently--Giyith

I’m okay, he insisted, but as they re-emerged into the air, Ty’dan took stock of his back left leg and hissed in sympathy. It looks bad, Giyith. It was a sign of how much he had to hurt that he conceded, a touch faintly, ...Perhaps I will allow the Healers to look at it and blinked back to the appropriate place. Just for a moment.

D'ny and Solider Almatianth - no injury | injured 6 Left Forearm

OH WHAT A LOVELY DAY, said Almatianth as they took to the skies. D’ny had to agree with her, even with the imminent threat of Thread. There was something about being together and preparing to fight, with the blood rushing through his veins, that provided an exhilaration nothing else could match. It’s not bad, he agreed, grinning as he leaned down to pat her side. Aloud, he added, “Ready for some action, darlin?” Almatianth only sniffed and sprang into the air at their Wingleader’s signal. BLESS YOUR HEART. ALWAYS!

For the first little while, the Fall went fairly uneventfully. There were injuries, but there always were, and D’ny’s world narrowed to the focus of Almatianth, the motions of feeding her firestone, and the watch for Thread. The mourning keen of a dragon lost snapped him out of it, looking around wildly for the source. “Who--” But before he could finish the question, Almatianth creeled in surprise more than pain. She recoiled, injured arm pulled tight, and D’ny lunged forward in alarm. “Alma!” IT IS JUST A SCRATCH! she said as they were engulfed by the numbness of Between. I WILL BE MORE CAREFUL NEXT TIME.

As they blinked back into the air above Lake Hold, D’ny settled back into his straps but he did no lower his guard. You better he said. We’ll get someone to look at it after.

Kaieru of Baeruth- injured; 8 Right Leg | no injury

They were flying well today, nothing unusual to impede them this Threadfall like usual. It was atypical for them to run into trouble, even on the front lines like this. That was, until a small Soldier careened into Baeruth's side; she'd panicked trying to get away from Thread and instead of jumping between she'd slammed into the King instead. A bright blaze of pain went up Kaieru's leg and he let out a shout. Clutching onto Baeruth's straps like a lifeline, he gritted his teeth to keep from crying out again. Baeruth, keep going.

Absolutely not, we're going back. The King said and immediately winked between. His wasn't in mortal danger, but his leg needed to be tended sooner rather than later. Someone will replace us.

You sharding, wherry headed, flea bitten dragon! Kaieru swore, more angry at being taken out of Threadfall than the injury. He was Not Happy.

----------

Kaze of Trogath- injured; 11 Right side of head | injured; 10 Right Fore leg

Things had been going well for their wing so far, but that was no reason to let their guard down. That was when mistakes were made and people got hurt. Don't let your guard down, Trogath.

You needn't remind me, the Queen told him, but stayed on the lookout all the same. Unfortunately, no one was perfect, and even the most diligent of dragons and riders still missed things. Pushed around by drafts from wings and natural wind gusts, a patch of thread blew into Trogath's path. The dragon roared in pain and bucked in mid air, the motion tossing Kaze into the path of a passing dragon's leg. He grunted in pain as he was hit in the head, then passed out. Alarmed, Trogath went between to rid himself of thread and return them to Plateau, informing Ezimoth as they left.

-----------

Kamui of Minervath- no injury | injured; 3 Right side of head

Minervath hissed as a bag of firestone tore, some hitting Nalini, but giving her enough time to wink between, coming out on the other side with little more than a bruise.

Are you alright, love? Kamui asked while checking their own firestone stores. He looked concerned when Indilth disappeared again but did not reappear.

I am fine; Nalini is not. Indilth is keeping her at the Weyr. Trogath is not returning either. His has been knocked unconscious. Minervath reported grimly, eyes on the sky. We must take over the wing.

Kamui nodded, not that his dragon could see it. Understood.

---------

S'rai of Ligeroth- injured; 13 Left Leg | injured; 8 Right Forearm

Though they were only flying replenishment, S'rai and Ligeroth were making good time in making sure everyone had the firestone they needed to keep fighting. Though S'rai really wanted to practice dodging, Ligeroth disagreed. Now is not the time to be foolish, He said, deftly dodging a clump of Thread as he prepped his jump between.

You're right, I'm just being- He stopped speaking abruptly as a vision came to him. Danger, over there, someone was going to be hurt-

Without prompting, Ligeroth jumped between to where his rider's vision guided him, arriving just in time to shove a Scout out of the way of a large clump of Thread. Both dragon and rider cried in pain; S'rai as thread burned through his clothing and the flesh of his left leg, Ligeroth as his right forearm was seared. He managed to find an image of the Weyr in his pain-haze and jumped between, Thread freezing and cracking before they returned to Plateau. The Officer touched down, favoring his foreleg, but that wasn't his priority. Mine is injured, someone help! He could do little for S'rai but croon comfortingly, his rider's cries of pain making his heart clench.

Rekal saw Simaroath disappear between his heart froze in his chest and he felt such a heart wrenching agony for his brother. "SIMAROATH!" He yelled into the sky his own grief stricken cry ripping through the air as he then ran to get R'keal...no Rackeal settled and then he turned to another patient. He was a healer first and foremost everything else was secondary.

Rekal didn't notice the wounded pair that came in until it was almost too late, he saw that it was Ta'ji of Soldier Evieth. He ran to her side and sighed as he looked at the dragon "I need you to stand still while I get her out of the straps ok?" He said as he looked at Evieth and then quickly scrambled up the dragon. He began cutting Ta'ji out of the straps and then got her carefully onto Rekask, the soldier had come up and waited.

Don't worry Evieth, he's going to help her. She said to her as she helped her handler get the bleeding and severely wounded woman to the ground. "It's ok Ta'ji. I've got you, my name is Rekal. Stay concious while I work on you ok? Don't fall asleep no matter how bad it hurts." He told her as he began working to clean the edges of the wound and then he looked at the arm. "Shards and shells." Rekal said as he grabbed a saw and he felt his heart skip a beat as he cut off the arm at the best point to make sure they could save the patient.

He then turned to start tending the other wounds, he then looked up to see some flitters in the distance. He wondered vaguely if they were Ta'ji's and he sighed heavily as he looked at the wher holding his patient as he then transferred her to a bed in their working area. He'd get her to the Infirmary after, he then looked at Rekask. "Heal here." He said as he pointed to the area where he'd taken off the arm and Rekask put her nose there closing that wound so she didn't bleed out. Then Rekask laid down next to the bed tired for the moment she'd gain more energy in a little while. As he tried to heal her he also focused some of his energy into her to lessen her pain a bit he also began to do an internal scan. He needed to know if there were any internal injuries that needed healing.

"No, you aren't going to die. But that's going to need to be looked at," Kereriar said. Standing with a frown, after having looked at the gash on Kersk's leg, and made some sort of compress to keep it from getting too bad, while they headed for the Healers.

He knew that going to help the Ground Crew had been a bad idea.

Probably lose leg then. Poor me. The young wher sighed, turning her head to peer at her hind leg, with the bandage and all.

"You shouldn't be.." Kereriar started to say that, also meaning to ask Kerersk to help carry Kersk to where they needed to go.

Above, as freak gusts of wind, possibly the remains of a microburst that had not been entirely redirected or otherwise stopped by those with talents for wind or air control. Sent tangles of thread around and downwards at rather unpredictable angles. One or two of them tangling up so tightly that they fell at a much greater than usual speed.

If there were warnings, Kereriar didn't hear them at all. Though Kerersk and Kersk might have picked up something at least. Tensing up, the cull queen and soldier wasn't sure where it was coming from though, any danger that they might have sensed.

Having gone to pick up the gear he had dropped a while earlier, annoyingly heavy as it was. Kereriar was closest as the tangle hit the ground, sending strands and pieces of itself in every direction. So he was the only one of the three really hit.

As it wrapped around his legs and started to spread though. He might at first have been too surprised for it to really register what had happened. Just looking down with the start of a frown. Stumblling a few steps back, as is that'd help, he screamed as his legs gave out.

We need help, NOW. Roaring that, not at all bothering to be quiet with what was happening. Kerersk lunged forwards, grabbing hold of her handler's shoulders, and started to drag him towards the nearest source of water. Whether a stream, or someone carrying it. That any such was rather far away, and that it might not be enough as the rate the thread was spreading though, she refused to think about.

OOC; ok, rescue needed. And permission to move my characters is given, of-course.

((just posting A'ra for now while I have inspiration, will edit or do a secondary post later~))

A'ra and Knight Micith @Sari
After the terrible Threadfall several months before and M'lona's subsequent stay in the infirmary, A'ra figured he could not be blamed for being a bit antsier than usual heading into the Fall. He could not shake the memory of her lying in bed in the aftermath, so pale and quiet. He had promised to protect her, but in separate wings as they were, he could only do so much without abandoning his duties. The best he could do was admonish Thane to keep an eye on M'lona and Relienyeth as well as possible. If something happened to either of them, he would know at once.

Other than that, he could only follow his Wingleader's orders and do the best he could for the Weyr.

After they emerged into the air over Lake Hold, it did not take long for him to realize that things were going terribly wrong. The numbers of their wing were dropping with alarming speed, as first one dragon then another fell to Thread, vanishing back to the weyr to be tended. There goes our Wingsecond, Micith observed, swinging around to sear a clump of silvery strands. I wonder-- and then a dragon in their wing vanished Between. For one panicked instant A'ra thought M'lona--his chest tightening--but Micith said, Simaroath and he could breathe again. Of course it wasn't Relienyeth, he isn't in our wing.

Right. Yes. But that mournful keen splitting the air made A'ra shudder. We need to-- Micith's head jerked around, trumpeting in startled pain, as a strand of Thread cut across his face, and A'ra forgot what he had been about to say. They blinked between before he could take stock of the injury but when they re-emerged he leaned forward, craning his head to get a look. Are you okay? I'll be fine. Thread had cut a gash just above his left eye, ichor dripping green against his hide, but it wasn't too serious. A'ra let out a breath. Fine.

An instant later Roraeth's voice broke through and Micith made an aggrieved noise. A'ra shot their Wingleader a startled look, then patted the side of Micith's neck. Tell them we'll be there. Micith seemed like he was about to grumble, then thought better of it, reaching out to Roraeth and Syr. We're on our way, just let us know if you need anything, he said, pivoting on a wingtip to take up the empty position. Not much longer, now.

A'ra might have laughed at the ridiculousness of it--him, a wingsecond, even in such an emergency--if the circumstances hadn't been so grave, if his heart hadn't hurt so much at the losses. He squashed all feeling and fear down into a small knot, to be taken out and inspected later when there were not so many people counting on them to do their jobs. Grim, he hunched low over Micith's neck and fed him another chunk of firestone.

The burning across his forearm came as a surprise more than anything else, registering only distantly through the fierce concentration. Don't be ridiculous-- Micith took them between, where they lingered in the blissful cold for a few seconds before appearing back in their position. Just a cut A'ra assured him, I'll deal with it later. And they went back to work.

((Will edit more in later, but Ta'ji is super important so...))
Ta'ji and Evieth

TW: kinda graphic...
Evieth bugled, too panicked to listen to the healer. Ta'ji was fading and fading fast. There was too much blood, with her arm already practically in shreds from the thread. Her breathing was shallow, and the thread that had scored her chest, although less deep, left bloody streaks along her body. Bones sheared cleanly, raw skin, and so much blood. But Rekal did what he could, and he worked quickly and efficiently.

A hoard of fire lizards appeared, quickly swarming around Rekal and Ta'ji, but keeping their distance. Moonscale, the queen, led the herd, followed by her kings, Peyzu and Mishmash. The knights and soldiers followed, and far behind them, the little scout Lettie creeled in sadness and pain.

Before Ta'ji was gone, though, Evieth jumped into the skies. She knew her rider was gone. She knew she had to be gone, too. No one could stop her in time, from jumping between out of panic. And, even as Rekal had her healed, she still faded. She'd lost too much blood from her various wounds...

((Impress any of her fire lizards, as you like, to Rekal, or divide them amongst yourselves.))

Rekal heard the keening and his chest constricted then he saw the flitters and he felt such soul wrenching pain at the sight of those poor creatures. He was already feeling his own bonds keening and his two flitters were not keen on others but he did open his mind to them. He was welcoming of the new firelizards that needed a human now that there's was dead, he was looking at the woman and then he grabbed a sheet and put it over her.

As he did he closed her eyes, he felt his heart heavy with pain and he was sure she was dead. He grabbed his own scalpel and made sure it was put away as he looked at the flitters, "Come on you lot." He said as he took them all in. He didn't have many and he'd keep them on as his as long as he could until they chose one way or the other if they wanted to truly stay. He'd lost their human and now they were staying with him, his pain was great as he looked at them and he saw Lettie's eyes were whirling in a way that threatened violence.

"Bring it on I deserve it." He told the scout who pulled back and cocked his head very confused as the others followed Moonscale's lead in joining him. The human was grief stricken, he would have to find a way to get her between he would get her body between then he'd grieve. He looked at a dragon who's rider was down but the dragon was fine, "Take her to Evieth please." He said softly to the dragon then turned away with Rekask, she felt his pain keenly.

Others saved. Rekask told her human who turned on her, he barely contained himself as he spoke to her. "THAT DOES NOT LESSEN THE LOSS OF LIFE! WE LOST TWO BECAUSE I WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH!" He snapped at her as he stormed away he had to get away before he really lost his shit and screamed more at the wher who didn't deserve it. The flitters were now swirling around their new human as confused as he was about how he felt and they shared his grief and were ready to help him. His two landed on his shoulders and were trying to help him as he crumpled in an empty room in the Lower Caverns.

He began the steady and calm cut that would bring a new mark up on his upper arm, he was going to make a new part of his tattoos. It was time after all he'd lost a patient and he was careful even as he grieved the lost patient and he felt the flitters grief and pain as well. Though he also felt confusion from the Queen of the group, she did not understand what the human was doing.

Low Level Injuries not requiring IC post:

Ar'tes - Small cut to the Right leg (4)
Ircai - Small Cut to the Left Arm (5)
Mian Medium threadscore to the Chest, tended to and returned to duty (7)

Kimperurth - Injured 10 head
Er'shan pulled his sleeve across his forehead, smearing the mix of swear and blood there. He'd just finished stopping a rider from bleeding out. They still weren't sure if the rider was going to live or not, but at least they would have a better chance. He left the master healer that was tending the rider to his work and looked around for the next place he would be needed.

Another incoming, Kimperurth announced as he swooped in to aid another dragon in landing, Just as he got into position and slowed the other dragon's descent, the dragon panicked. Their wings quickly became entangled and the two came down hard. Kimperurth managed to maneuver so the other dragon wouldn't take any more injury , but without front legs to break his fall, he landed hard on his upperbody, causing his head to slam against the ground.

He stumbled to his feet as the other dragon was shifted off of him, only to fall back down. Ichor dripped for a large gash on the side of his head that had hit the ground. No, no. I will be fine. Help the rider first.. He insisted as Er'shan started towards them.

I-

He will die. I will not. Help him.

(Left Vague so anyone can claim rider/Dragon that was injured or it can be NPC)

Verren - Injured 15 right leg
Scrapes and bruises were to be expected during firestone bagging duties. Those didn't bother him and he continued with his work without complaint. Things had mostly been going well, even if he'd been reamed for being a little late for his duties. Still, there had been no accidents. Until there was. It was about mid fall when one of the other weyrlings got careless. They pulled a piece of firestone from a spot they shouldn't have in an already precarious pile.

Mithalria - Injured 15 left leg

Tiske and Iced River - Injured 18 left leg| Injured 18 right foreleg

K'rita - Injured 18 Left Leg
